Welcome to the Conservation District Education page!
Are you interested in activities that encourage teamwork, self-confidence, inquiry-based learning and the integration of science, history, math and social studies? Well, so are we!
The education department at the District offers FREE programming to any Hamilton County classroom, library, scout group, homeschool group or recreation facility. We are able to come to any school up to 1 time each semester (Aug-Dec, Jan-May) and will begin scheduling with teachers shortly before the beginning of the school year on a first-come, first-serve basis. Our programs are free and fun so they book up quickly!! We truly enjoy creating an interactive learning experience that leaves participants with a respect for their environment and the confidence to know that they can do the right things to make a difference, no matter what their age.
Want to take it up a notch? Enter your students in one of our many contests. Applicants of any age can get creative to win prizes in our poster and essay contests. High School students can be a part of our area Envirothon, competing against other local high schools in science topics at an outdoor facility, or win money and gain college skills while making a change in their community when they enter the Caring For Our Watersheds competition.
We have opportunities for educators too! We award two Hamilton County educators each year $500 grants to integrate or enhance conservation in their curriculum. We also offer environmental education teacher workshops throughout the year in nationally recognized curricula such as Project WILD, Growing Up WILD, Project WET and many others, giving educators the opportunity to learn and network.
Please browse through our website to see how we can work together to spread a message of conservation to our youth. Be sure to contact Teresa, Education Coordinator, if you have any questions about programs, contests, resources or are ready to schedule.
